Newest Review- THE REVEREND PEYTON’S BIG DAMN BAND – SO DELICIOUS- (Country Blues Americana Punk)- 2015

Hailing from rural Indiana, The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band take their cues from the rural south. They are truly a hybrid of Americana (Country and Blues) and Punk. I hear influences from Southern Culture on the Skids, Charley Patton, Mojo Nixon, Bukka White, Black Oak Arkansas, John Spencer, R.L Burnside, etc. Most sites say that this is their 5th album, but some state that it is their 8th. I'm not sure. Prevalent on the album is a simple driving bass and straight ahead basic solid drumming. That being said, The Big Damn Band are not experts on their instruments but the music is great. Rev. Payton is a pretty good guitar player though.  They also make use of a washboard and a bucket for musical sounds. The Big Damn Band constantly tours and hopefully I'll be able to see them at some point.  All in all, the whole album is great.  It's not genius material, but it  sure is fun. This is backwoods party music.  Rhett Taylor

Gogol Bordello - Live from Irving Plaza (2008) Full Concert

Gogol Bordello /Gypsy Punks Underdog World Strike
Gogol Bordello is a Gypsy punk band from the Lower East Side of Manhattan, formed in 1999 and known for theatrical stage shows and persistent touring.[1] Much of the band's sound is inspired by Gypsy music mixed with punk and dub. The band incorporates accordion and violin (and on some albums, saxophone). The band has appeared in a number of popular films, most notably in 2005's Everything Is Illuminated in which the lead singer, Eugene Hütz, co-starred with Elijah Wood...."Gogol" comes from Nikolai Gogol, a classical Russian writer, born in the Russian Empire in today's Ukraine (Gogol himself used the older common name "Little-Russia"). He serves as an ideological influence for the band because he "smuggled" Ukrainian culture into Russian society, which Gogol Bordello intends to do with Gypsy/East-European music in the English-speaking world.[3] "Bordello," in Italian, refers to a brothel or a "gentleman's club." The band was originally titled Hütz and the Béla Bartóks, but Eugene Hütz says that they decided to change the name because "nobody knows who the hell Béla Bartók is in the United States..... (Wikipedia)

Combining elements of punk, Gypsy music, and Brecht-ian cabaret, Gogol Bordello tell the story of New York's immigrant diaspora through debauchery, humor, and surreal costumes. Leader and singerEugene Hütz's taste in music was spun out of black market tapes of the Birthday Party andEinstürzande Neubauten in his native Ukraine. After being evacuated to western Ukraine in 1986 following the Chernobyl disaster, Hütz became enamored of the mystical, outsider qualities of Gypsy music. Living as a refugee in Poland, Hungary, Austria, and Italy before moving to the United States in 1993, he experienced life as an outsider himself......The group's early gigs involved playing straight Gypsy music at Russian weddings, but their music soon evolved into the hyper-kinetic explosions that earned them a solid following among New York's downtown hipsters..... (All Music Guide)

Their music was also featured in the film Wristcutters: A Love Story and the character of Eugene was based on and partially written by Eugene Hütz. (Last Fm)

The Gogol Bordello band includes people from all of the world. They are truly one of the best live acts ever. I saw them around this time and it was one amazing show. My wife loved Gogol Bordello as well. She always wanted to see them. Since she has passed I haven't seen any concerts.Hopefully, I'll begin to see great shows  like this some time soon again. If you have never seen them before, do your self a favor and see them. You won't be disappointed. (Rhett Taylor)
